2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 review: Wait for the next model year

Speaking of Sport mode, power delivery can even get a little frisky if you press the Boost button on the steering wheel, which increases power to 483 hp (360 kW) for up to 20 seconds, up from 429 hp (320 kW).

There’s acceptable room back here for an ICE-mobile, but it’s less impressive for an EV.

It features 28.7 cubic feet (812 L) of storage with the rear seats in use or 56.5 cubic feet (1,600 L) with the rear seats folded down.

But this SUV has too much body roll when you corner to ever feel super-sporty. In Eco mode, the powertrain almost exclusively uses the rear motor—both have identical outputs of 214 hp (160 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm). That’s more than enough for most situations, with double that just a button press away on the steering wheel if more power or torque is required.

The main instrument display is probably the car’s biggest letdown. The idea was to make a 2D panel that could create a 3D effect, but in practice, the display just looked blurrier if I turned the 3D on. The good news is that model year 2026 is bringing an all-new OLED display that should be a vast improvement. But at least there’s wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Wait for MY26 or find a good deal

If you’re considering an Electrified GV70, that new screen might be worth waiting for in and of itself. But there are other, even better reasons to wait for MY26.

A larger 84 kWh battery pack will replace the 77.4 kWh pack in the MY25 car we tested. That returned a so-so 3.1 miles/kWh (20 kWh/100 km)—perhaps the least-good efficiency I’ve encountered in a Korean EV. The facelifted Electrified GV70 will also see the introduction of a NACS (J3400) charge port, replacing the CCS1 port fitted to our test EV.

Access to more chargers and a larger battery will both be welcome additions. The EPA range is already a miserly 236 miles (379 km), less than the 264 miles (424 km) the GV60 can achieve with the same battery pack.

On the other hand, there will undoubtedly be good lease deals available on MY25 Electrified GV70s that dealers will want rid of before the updated cars arrive in the first half of this year. And because the powertrain tech is the same E-GMP stuff that we swoon over in other Korean EVs, it means this one still fast-charges to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. So while stops might be slightly more frequent on a road trip, they’ll at least be fast.
